Violence against Hindus is not stopping in Bangladesh
International News: Violence against the Hindu community is increasing in Bangladesh. Not a single week passes without reports of violence from some corner of Bangladesh. Recently, a case of vandalism of Hindu houses has come to light in Gangachara of Rangpur. In a village of Betgari Union of Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur district in northern Bangladesh, a teenager accused the people of the Sanata community of insulting the Prophet. He made this allegation through a Facebook post. As the post went viral, people's anger erupted against the Sanatan community, and violence began. In this entire incident, the houses of many Hindus in Gangachara were vandalized and looted. The police arrested Kishore, a student of a local private educational institution, and sent him to jail. The local administration said that a case has been registered against him under the Cyber Security Act.
According to BBC Bangla, Upazila Executive Officer Mahmud Hasan Khan said that the army and police have taken charge of the spot after some houses were attacked with microphones. Officer-in-charge of Gangachara Police Station Mohammad Al Imran said that he believed the situation there was largely normal on Monday. However, locals said that panic has spread in the entire area after the attacks on houses, looting, and vandalism.
The area where the violence took place is adjacent to the Kishoreganj sub-district of Nilphamari district. The administration and local people say that a group of people from one area took out a procession while making an announcement on the mike and attacked and vandalized. The Amir of the local organization Jamaat-e-Islami says that the general public was angry and attacked, and he also said that the police were unable to handle them in the initial stages. If the police had shown promptness in this matter, many Hindu houses could have been saved from vandalism.
